Bowery Gallery Annual Juried Exhibit, Ro Lohin Juror

Opening reception Thursday,  August 1  from 5-8 pm

Exhibition dates July 30 to August 17, 2019

The Bowery Gallery proudly presents its annual national juried exhibition. Now in its 28th year, the exhibition has been curated in previous years by painters including William Bailey, Rackstraw Downes, Joan Snyder, and Lois Dodd, and by the art critics Jed Perl, Lance Esplund, and David Cohen, among others.

This year’s juror, Ro Lohin, is a painter and curator based in New York City.  Her work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions including the New York Studio School, The Painting Center, and Lori Bookstein Gallery.  Her work has been reviewed in the New York Times, Hamptons Art Hub, and the New York Sun, among others.  Lohin has taught at Alfred University, Western Carolina University, New York Studio School, and the Mount Gretna School of Art. She has had artist residencies at Cité Internationale des Arts-Paris, Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, and the Vermont Studio Center. Lohin was director and owner of Lohin Geduld Gallery in New York from 2003-2013.

From hundreds of applicants this year, Ms. Lohin has chosen seventy-six works by 74 artists from the Northeast and from Kentucky, Arizona, Texas, Hawaii, Florida, and Italy. Gallerygoers will find artists whose work they know, as well as artists new to the New York scene. Ms. Lohin’s selection includes work in oils, watercolor, acrylic, encaustic, pencil, collage, and mixed media. The group of works reflects the mix of tradition-conscious figuration and abstraction for which the Bowery Gallery is known. Bowery Gallery exhibitions have been praised in The New York Times, in The New Republic, on artcritical.com, in Art in America, and on the Huffington Post, among other publications.
